Dear PMHA Members,

There is a need for on-ice officials across the province, at all levels. Please consider this as a new avenue to participate in Hockey, regardless of your age, youth or adult.

There are common misconceptions about being an official. Most of the time we are a third team on the ice, who wants to let players participate in a fair and safe game of hockey, and we support each other, not just as a crew in that one game, but as a staff of officials at Peninsula, and across the province.

The benefits of becoming an official:

  • You get more immersed in the game, and gain a better understandings of the rules
  • You get more skating practice and exercise
  • You can set your own schedule
  • You gain resume skills: Professional conduct, handling tough situations in real-time, applying rules and procedures in dynamic environments
  • You earn some cash
  • You are giving back to the game for the next generation

Steps to becoming a certified official:

  • Be 12 years of age on or before Dec 31st, 2021
  • Take a self-directed online course to cover the basics :link
  • Attend in-person clinic with your peers to discuss the rest: see blow

**PMHA is hosting an in-person clinic scheduled for Nov 2nd at Mary Winspear Center

  • Level 1 (12-15 years old): Link
  • Level 2 (16-17 years old): Link
  • Level 2 (18+ years old): Link (requires CRC, which can be submitted here)

There is an up-front cost to certifications, however after working 5 games at PMHA, you will be reimbursed those fees. PMHA will also provide your first whistle, and a jersey.
