As we know, all of the South Island is struggling with availability of ice. Our friends at JDF are launching their own local plea to their municipality for increased resources to build another rink. We know the infrastructure on the west shore is not able to keep up with the rate of housing growth, and kids are at risk of being denied entrance to minor hockey, figure skating and speed skating. Their plight affects us as well, as an extra ice surface anywhere in the South Island could be used by anyone, including Peninsula residents. More ice = more hockey opportunity for all. I encourage our members to give the pledge a read, and then sign and share if it suits them. There is power in the voices of the community, and while we are not west shore area residents, showing our neighboring support is important.
