In early June, after considering all available information and feedback from our members, the Peninsula Minor Hockey Association (PMHA) Board of Directors voted in opposition to a Vancouver Island Amateur Hockey Association (VIAHA) proposal to establish a Tier 1 Host Program on Vancouver Island for Pee Wee, Bantam, and Midget. While PMHA’s vote was registered with VIAHA, a majority of Vancouver Island minor hockey associations voted in favour, and VIAHA is proceeding with the program on a pilot basis for the 2018/19 season.

The VIAHA Tier 1 Host Program will see four teams established in each division: one on the North Island, one on the Central Island, and two on the South Island. The host association for players in the existing Peninsula and Saanich draw zones will be the Victoria Racquet Club.

In a June 21st memorandum to Island minor hockey associations, BC Hockey advised that “current BC Hockey Regulations and Policies are in place that would allow players to move from association to association on Residential Waivers.” Accordingly, for the VIAHA Tier 1 Host Program, Peninsula Minor Hockey will approve residential transfer requests in accordance with VIAHA and BC Hockey policies and procedures.
