New Player Registration - Opens May 1st

There are different types of New Player Registration. Please read the options and follow the directions for the category that applies to your child.

1. Your child is new to minor hockey and lives in the Peninsula Minor Hockey catchment (Gulf Islands, Sidney, North and Central Saanich up to Tanner Ridge). Please complete the 2025/26 New Player to PMHA Form below when registration opens on May 1st. This will provide the information needed for our registrar to assign a Hockey Canada number to your player. You will then receive a follow up email with a link to complete your players registration.

IMPORTANT: Although the message, Thanks for Registering, appears after completing the New Player to PMHA form, this is not an actual registration form. Rather, to PMHA Form alerts our organization that a new player would like to join. After receiving the form, the PMHA Registrar will assign a Hockey Canada number, then verify space and notify you by email with the registration link if space is available.

2. Your child has previously played Minor Hockey at another association and you have moved your primary residence to the Peninsula Minor Hockey Catchment (Gulf Islands, Sidney, North and Central Saanich up to Tanner Ridge). This would make them new to the PMHA catchment. We call this a Residential Transfer. Please complete the 2025/26 New Player to PMHA Form below when registration opens on May 1st to alert our registrar that you need to complete a residential transfer.

IMPORTANT: Although the message, Thanks for Registering, appears after completing the New Player to PMHA form, this is not an actual registration form. Rather, the New Player to PMHA Form alerts our organization that a new player would like to join. After receiving the form, the PMHA Registrar will then verify space and notify you by email with the registration link if space is available.

3. Your child is applying to PMHA because your home Minor Hockey association is full or does not have a program in your age group. We call this a Residential Waiver.

When considering applying for a residential waiver, please note that minor hockey is very strictly regulated by boundaries and you MUST play at your home association with very few exceptions. If your player is approved to play on a residential waiver, your player can play recreation hockey only, not rep hockey. If a waiver is granted by BC Hockey and VIAHA, it is only valid for one year. At the end of the season, your player’s Hockey Canada Record automatically reverts back to your home association and you would need to apply for the waiver again the following year, meeting the same criteria. This means that your player never has a guaranteed place to play – it will be dependant on space as residential waivers are the last to be registered, after returning players, late returning players, new players and residential transfers (players who have permanently moved into the PMHA catchment). Approvals by BC Hockey/VIAHA are done in late August.
